How wide is the solar system in light years? Assuming the distance from heliopause to heliopause, what is the width of our solar system at its widest, in light years? Also, what is that same distance in astronomical units?

The Effects of Focused Light on Solar Panels? If I had "x" area of solar panels, could I increase the amount of power they make by focusing the amount of light by using a parabolic disc? If so, is there a limit to the amount of light?
Where can I get a solar powered shed light that turns on automatically when the shed door is opened? This is for a regular sized garden shed, maybe 2m x 3m. I'd like to put a small solar panel on the roof to catch the sunlight. This should charge the batteries in a lighting unit. The batteries do not need to power the light for a long time (maybe 30 minutes). I would like the light to come on automatically when I open the door and go off when I close it again. A mechanical switch fitted to the door would be fine (like in a fridge). A rough price guide would also be useful. Many thanks in advance...
Will my new solar Christmas light strand work on an indoor tree? I just purchased these (in the spirit of "An Inconvenient Truth"!) and they do indeed work outside, where the solar box collects direct sunlight during the day. But will sunlight through window glass be enough to power the strand? I'd like to use indoors on a large ficus tree. Thanks for any help!
how do i cost-effectively use solar energy to provide light at night? i am moving to sierra leone, the poorest country in the world. there will be no electricity where i will be. if i buy a 12v solar charger and a 12v (we'll say flourescent) light capable of creating as many lumens as a 60w light bulb, how many hours of light can i provide each night (assuming 14 hours of sunlight)? any additional suggestions for off the grid power are very welcome.
ok, let me make it clearer, what light can you use to charge solar lights? Besides the sun.? Where I live (on the coast), we have a lot of cloudy and rainy days, I use two solar lights inside my home for night lights. My question is what kind of light bulb can I use to charge them when it raining an 1" or more an hour outside for days and days on end? (Obviously No Sun)! I have been told full spectrum lights and reveal. What do you think? My kids love using them and it's kind of a project for them. Thank you.
Solar Light Batteries? Okay - I read all the other threads like this, but I still want to make sure what I was told is correct. My solar lights use Ni-Cad rechargeable batteries, AA size. I just left Walmart with a pack of rechargeable batteries - the guy there said I can use these, and that they are the same thing as the ones my lights came with. Can someone assure me that it's okay to use these batteries instead of the nickel-cadmium batteries that came with my lights?
What if anything has been done to channel light power other than solar panels? The ancients used skylights for light in lieu of electricity. Light was used for drying, even cooking foods and drying clothes. Solar clocks/sun dials were once popular but now we have battery operated clocks. Where have we tapped into any of these resources since the outdated solar clothes drier nicknamed the 'clothes line'? Good example Omnisource. But I don't need lasars at home. What about everyday use to save energy?
Where to go to repair a garden solar novelty light? I have a novelty "tree stump" called the WOODSMAN. I am looking for some one in the Toronto, (Etobicke) area to repair it as it has stopped functioning, (not battery) Wal-Mart where I purchased it was of no assisstance at all.
Is it possible to use solar panels to light up houses? I was wondering if it is possible to convert all the internal lightings and fan systems in a household to solar power. That way only heavy duty stuff like air conditioners and motors will be powered by the grid? What are the drawbacks of this system?
Anyone know if you can replace the batteries in a solar powered outdoor light? I have a small Solar powered pathway lantern that no longer works,When I looked inside I see there are two batteries in there. Is there a way to get new batteries for these things or should I just toss it? Such a shame to toss it because it is metal and still in good condition but useless unless I could get it to work again.
